Voltron, Defender of the Universe originally aired in the United States in 1984. It consisted of 52 episodes and soonafter, merchandising and ratings proved the show popular enough for a second season.
So, World Events Productions, owner of the series asked Toei Animation Co. of Japan, "Voltron's" creator, for production of a second season. Twenty episodes aired in this season and consisted of subpar artistry and scripts. A two part episode "special" occurred a couple of years later called "Fleet of Doom" and consisted of the two Voltron series.
