Information
Besides
being a great animal the Moose is also the state animal
for Maine in the United States. It is the largest animal
in North America that has antlers. It is also a member
of the Deer family of animals. It can grow to be ten
feet long and seven feet tall, but it is extremely rare
at this size. It can also grow to become 750 pounds
in the girth of it's weight. The Moose tends to eat
willow, birch, aspen, pine, cerry and mountain ash.
The mating season for the Moose is in Late September
or early October and many of the older females often
give birth to twin offspring. The Moose is an animal
that is constantly looking for food and often it looks
for sodium, commonly known as salt. Humans provide the
most plentiful suply of this mineral when we salt the
roads during the winter. This is why the moose is often
seen in or near populated areas. With our salt and crops,
humans are the mooses number one friend. In most Canadian
provinces and American States there is a ban on hunting
this creature so the Moose is usually safe from humans.
